Castle Hill Estate

Castle Hill is a large private residence in North Devon and 5D Group successfully tendered for the
installation of a 400kW Biomass System to provide heat and hot water to the Mansion House, two
separate Wings, the Estate Offices, six cottages and an outside pool.
We were commissioned to design, supply, install and commission the system and provide 'turn key' project management to replace the existing aging oil boiler system. The design included thermally modelling the buildings so we could work out how to accurately split the system into two 199kW boilers to maximise the return from the Renewable Heat Incentive.
We were commissioned to design, supply, install and commission the system and provide 'turn key' project management to replace the existing aging oil boiler system. The design included thermally modelling the buildings so we could work out how to accurately split the system into two 199kW boilers to maximise the return from the Renewable Heat Incentive.
The Biomass Boilers were located in a new purpose built building including a large boiler room and
double chip store which was designed and landscaped into the topography of the site to
blend in with the 'listed' nature of the conservation area. Over 700 metres of district heating
pipe was laid to take the hot water from the plant room to the various properties around
the site which included some cobbled areas and entrances into buildings of architectural
significance. The trenching work involved meeting some tight deadlines to ensure the
district heating system was laid, jointed and the area 'made good' before the shooting
season started. The two boilers Froling Boilers use chip from a local supplier.
