Crealy Meadows

Crealy Meadows
Faced with a significant bill to extend the Gas main from the road down to the site of a new camping and caravanning park, Chris Down at Crealy Park sought the input and advice of 5D Group to find an alternative solution to save money and take advantage of the government incentives offered to renewable energy solutions.

5D Group took time to fully understand the client’s future plans for Crealy as a whole as well as their immediate plans for developing a high quality modern camping site. It became clear this project was part of a longer term plan to extend the site and the provision of cheap and renewable energy was part of this ongoing proposal. Crealy had sourced woodchip locally making transport both cheap and easy although wished to have the flexibility to switch to other fuels in the future should market conditions change.

5D Group’s expertise in designing mechanical and electrical systems for camp sites enabled them to work out the best way to cope with the high peak demand for hot water, the desire for underfloor heating in the shower blocks as well as taking advantage of the maximum available return under the RHI scheme. As a result, a 199kW Twin Heat boiler was proposed with a district heating system designed to heat both the existing and future shower units as well as the reception area and wardens office. The design also enables the Park to take advantage of renewable energy fully should it expand further in the future. A bespoke Optimax Load Control System was designed and installed to optimise the yield from the biomass boiler.

There were tight timescales for the installation, given the need for the park to meet an opening date in May when 500 campers were booked in over the first weekend. 5D Group’s experienced installation team worked closely with the contract team to ensure the district heating system and Biomass plant was installed efficiently and worked to provide a seamless number of hot showers over that first weekend.

Chris Down comments:
The design expertise of 5D Group was instrumental in our choosing them as partners to design and supply our new Biomass Boiler system at Crealy Meadows. They took time to understand our plans and their ability to adapt to changing circumstance s and their flexibility during the installation contract made it a pleasure to do business with them. They were unphased by tight deadlines and helped ensure our opening weekend was a great success. I have already recommended them to other businesses”.
